I know so strongly what I want because I know so strongly what I don’t want. Whichever direction I focus towards makes all the difference in what I continue to receive.
Feel GOOD Friday
Someone asked me why I write these FGF posts. Back when I did my radio show we had a daily poll focused on the issue du jour, but at the end of the week we switched it up to ask a ‘Feel Good Friday’ question: What was the best part of your week? We always got great response; people enjoyed a reason to reflect on what went right for them. We’re powerful focusing mechanisms and I also love any excuse to ponder what I’m loving in a world that tries so hard to have us focus otherwise. Here’s what I love this week:
★ The above pic makes me howl. The Hub and I were at an event recently where there were several awards on display. What gay man could resist grabbing an Emmy and accepting the award?
★ My cheesey retro playlist on Rdio, So Old I Spell It School. Continue Reading…
What If?
Last week I got this note from James, whom I’ve never met but with whom I’ve corresponded for a few years:
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks for the bday wishes. Thanks for the podcast of you and Wigmore – get my fix of the old (can we say old) days of Proudfm. Life on my end is good. I am closing the shop at the end of this month. Physically it’s killing me. Plus I want to plan life with Paul and having this business takes everything. I want to be able to go on a vacation with Paul – when owning your own business life is just different and you can’t just run off. At least with a Mon to Fri job I can plan vacations and things. I am thinking 2012 is going to be an amazing year for me. I haven’t been this excited about starting a new year in so long. YAY! Thanks for the podcasts, thanks for your updates, thanks for your blog. Continue Reading…
Evolution Of The Species
In my line of work I get to meet and learn from a lot of people. No people have taught me more over the past few years than trans people. From my friends Buck Angel and Lucas Silveira and the many in-depth conversations we’ve had about what it’s like to be born in a body that doesn’t match the sex you feel in your head, to watching Rosie‘s young guest Jazz on Ro’s talk show articulately and profoundly express that (s)he feels she in every sense, it’s been a fast lesson for me that the concept of gender is a societal creation, the very fluidity of it all before our very eyes all the proof I need. Simple Shortage Consciousness
Gosh it was just 8 am this morning when I got a real good life class from Life.
They never stop, do they.
Last June I dropped my six-month old iPhone 4. It immediately showed damage, a crystal leak onto my screen which as the weeks and months have passed have all but brought my life essential to a sad stop. It was next to impossible to text, to answer the phone, the simple things.
It’s really been driving me insane. Ask my husband. Continue Reading…
Feel GOOD Friday!
Happy Friday! It’s my first FGF post of 2012 and I am indeed feeling just that after an amazing week. Here’s why:
★ 2012 marks the 10th year online of Shaun Proulx Media‘s flagship platform GayGuideToronto.com. I can’t believe it’s been a decade! It’s lasted longer than most of my relationships and is older than Facebook but younger than Yahoo! To kick off a year of celebrating (the site officially turns 10 April 1), we’re giving away an Atlantis Cruise this month and we’ve tied the contest in with SPM’s The Joy Project so that each entry helps us feed Canada’s hungry. Go for it! I can totally see you on the high seas! Continue Reading…
Ageing Madonna
I don’t understand ageism and loathe it. For most of my early twenties the only men I would date were all in their forties. They were infinitely more interesting that guys my age, not to mention reliably better in bed.
I like older people in general. I like the wisdom they have, their certainty of character, I’m more attracted to the package that they’ve become.
In the last episode of my podcast UNCENSORED! the topic of ageism came up with my co-host Mark Wigmore, vis-a-vis Madonna, now 53. I said something to the effect that the queen of pop’s very public aging was shining a spotlight on how we as a society feel about and treat people as we age – especially women. I suggested then and suggest now that perhaps we’ve never had to look at the the subject quite same way before, simply because of the enormity of who Madonna is. When has a bigger star ever aged before us, and when has there been such a connected global village all able to watch and comment? Continue Reading…
