Shaun-Proulx-Lesson-In-Luxury

Let’s talk luxury.

Do you love luxury?

I love luxury. >Tweet this!

I learned on a phone call with a new friend last night this fact is pretty apparent.

He phoned right after my husband and I had just enjoyed a homemade lavender steam treatment for our scratchy throats (lavender is anti-fungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory).

My friend seemed to take delight in the fact Patrick and I were enjoying such a thing together, that I was all Mr. Lavender Oil to begin with.

“I like my creature comforts,” I told him.

“I’m beginning to notice that,” he said.

I am glad to know I put that vibe out; luxury increases self-value – that’s a highly powerful thing.

By luxury I don’t mean materialism, clichés like “champagne and truffles”, designer clothes, sports cars or other opulence (though I appreciate and enjoy many of those things). By luxury I mean precious things that provide you with pleasure and comfort, a sense of satisfaction, harmony and alignment. Things that are just a step above the basics we each need for day-to-day survival.

For example, flowers are luxury to me. So is fancying up my morning coffee. The essential oils I diffuse in my office are luxury. Meditating and journaling, both a luxury. Setting a nice table for dinner and sitting across from my husband, talking while we chat, is luxury. Burning candles in the evenings is luxury. Watching Cate Blanchett command Blue Jasmine (again), or laughing my ass off to War Paint (again) is luxury. Hot baths are luxury. Always having the company of my cat and dog is a luxury (and walking my Ella, sweaty, or muddy, or covered in snow through my favourite ravine in Toronto is luxury beyond compare).

Such simple abundance costs almost nothing but is invaluable.

Luxury is a form of empowerment because it is a way to attract more abundance to your experience. >Tweet this!

When you surround yourself with luxury, it means you believe you are valuable. When you believe you are valuable, the Universe agrees and responds accordingly.

When I was in my twenties I dated a guy who once declared, “Only the best for Shaun Proulx!” He was at my apartment for the first time, and although it was nothing if not modest, it was well kept, I had filled it with things that made me happy, and that made him see me as someone who demanded the best for himself. I was too young to understand where he was coming from, but today I can see the great example of the power of the message you offer about yourself.

When I told my husband about my friend delighting in our lavender steam session story, he said, “You’ve always been good at small luxuries. I’ve always just been content with what I had. It never dawned on me to make life even better.”

My husband may have been “content” (and he may not enjoy me sharing this), but, of the two of us, guess who attracts more (probably just enough to make it rather annoying) into his practised experience? More fun, more people, more opportunities, more surprises, more blessings, more abundance?

When you dial up your view of yourself, you dial up the quality of your life because your experience becomes an echo of your beliefs. >Tweet this!

The Universe loves when we bask in abundance because that is our natural state of being. Each of us is luxury in the eyes of the Universe. Treasure attracts treasure.

Do you feel worthy of luxury? If your answer is yes, show yourself and the Universe your self-value by beginning to include more luxury in your life. It could be imbibing in The Best Chocolate Ever at the end of each day, or putting your favourite quote into a frame so you can see it more frequently. Over the holidays I re-arranged my office according to some new feng shui basics I have learned. Then I covered the wall I face in cork board, putting up all my vision board images so I now see them constantly and I am loving this new space I’ve created for myself.

So, moving furniture, and hammering cork (yet… bending nails?) and basking in the results is luxury.

When you let yourself know you are worthy by practising luxury, you become more worthy, you become more deserving. And everything around you bends to that in complete co-operation and utter agreement.

The more you luxuriate, the more luxurious life becomes.
