Well into my #50NewThingsFor50YearsOld adventure, what I’ve discovered from trying so many new things is this: while I thought I already lived my life hard, I have only scratched the surface. There is so much new and good to allow in, whenever we want.

I’m so grateful for this ride – it has really taught me how much MORE there for each of us to know and do – if we just decide to.

At the same time, that heightened awareness comes with a strange melancholy (not something I feel much) that no matter how many new, wonderful things there are to try, there are countless experiences out there to know that I never will.

But at least I’m working on fifty doozies that wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t bothered! Some selects from my growing list from trying #50NewThingsFor50YearsOld:

I have eaten bugs. Specifically, crickets and ants.

I have taken a cooking class.

I visited a women’s shelter in Paterson, New Jersey, with my pal Dolores Catania (Real Housewives of New Jersey) where I recorded an upcoming episode of my show. It was an honour to be permitted in, and to then have several bright lights living there share their powerful stories.

Tried oxtail soup and cow heel soup.

Attended my first opera.

Took a road trip with my cousin Sarah.

Helped make and tried “Newfie Slush” – a Newfoundland Christmastime tradition.

Grew my own sunflowers, from seeds given by pal Gloria. Pal Kevin gave me seeds recently – these sunflowers are supposed to grow PURPLE!

Had sex in a treehouse 30 feet off the ground (Weird story, but magic. And no visual shares for this one; you’re welcome)

Experienced a temezcal (a type of sweat lodge). INTENSE.

Experienced sound healing (Whereupon I fell asleep and snored like a chainsaw and then began moaning loudly, I’m told.

Have begun to explore my indigenous roots (Mi’kmaq; can you spot the mini me?)

Visited one of the last remaining authentic haciendas in Amtitan, 50 km outside Guadalajara, where my favourite tequila is distilled. And favourite bathtub ever is located:

Hotel Demitra, te amo.

Was part of a really cheesy holiday campaign – with a really cheesy company

… and many other adventures, to share with you in another update. Adventures to come include Algonquin Park next month with cousin Aaron (cabin; no running water / no electricity) and fencing with Tammy. Any way you slice it – the fun don’t stop!

Back to this update. This is really about curling. The sport. With the broom. On ice. The time I tried it. If you have not yet played the video up top, press play now, and behold the full glory of it all.

PS. Follow in my footsteps and win!
