Shaun-Proulx-The-Secret-To-Long-Term-Happiness

Great news! Our original 30-Day Appreciation Challenge was so beneficial to people, we are keeping it as a regular offering * here on ShaunProulx.com.

Shaun-Proulx-30-Days-Appreciation-Challenge

Your every day should have you feeling like a powerful creator, with evidence appearing constantly confirming you are. >Tweet this!

The alternative is to live by default (as most do): sometimes things work out, sometimes not; life’s a roll of the dice.

The Law of Attraction says that you get what you think about, which is why at the very basis of you living deliberately (rather than by default) is a focus by you on things that make you feel appreciation. Every thought has a vibration. Put yourself in a high vibe mode by being appreciative and that becomes a new and improved set-point for Law of Attraction to respond to. Your life sees you receiving more experiences, more circumstances and more ‘things’ that match the essence of how you feel.

People talk about how long since they stopped smoking; I’ve been appreciating more than I’ve been complaining for 5,475 days! Since 1999 I have journaled a full page of appreciation each morning. I meditate. I tap. I have vision boards in my office with pictures on it that make me feel good. My screen-savers – same thing. My ring-tone on my phone is the theme song to Downton Abbey because I think “living large” every time I get a call. My husband and I draw into our conversation things we appreciate (today: “our timing is always so amazing – we just missed the downpour!”). We bless our food at dinner and offer thanks for moments / happenings from the day gone by, aloud. Each night before bed I open a second journal and list five to ten bullet points of things that were great that day. Rinse, repeat.

And it feels good to do it.

The result is – as I say often – I have become the happiest guy I know. Period. I fall off the wagon – you are meant to – but it is nothing to get back on when you have maintained a momentum of positive focus. Because when you start focusing on all the good there is around you, guess what? More good shows up. The blips are zip.

Appreciation is the one thing I know that works – it never lets you down – and I’ll be damned (my prideful, ambitious ego talking now) if I’m going to be so silly as to waste my life fingers-crossed, working to the bone, hoping to get lucky and receive the life I want.

Appreciation isn’t airy-fairy stuff, it’s just smart.

Try it for yourself by adding what YOU appreciate in your life to all those already listed below. Do it for 30 days and watch what happens.

Got a share? Do it if you dare!

  • Solid site and contest Mr. Proulx…. I’ll bite. I appreciate that my partner is getting great medical care right now at Mount Siani. Peace out…

  • .. how wonderful life is full of surprises ! As a result of some personal challenges lately, I actually opted to sit & write down all the #blessings I am grateful for in my life (instead of wallowing & throwing a ‘pity party’ ;). So I am ‘sincerely’ thus grateful to you guys for encouraging this great philosophy & challenge for the benefit of us all ! x

    • Go for it Angel! Although this is a bit like L. (waiting until there are challenges to overcome or something else you really want to do) – it’s much easier to create a lifestyle that focuses on #blessings whereby you also gain momentum and the comfort of a predictably enjoyable experience each day!

  • I appreciate the **freedom** I suddenly have to create a life that exites and challenges me. and the “out of nowhere” opportunities that are coming , too !!!

  • Love this contest, sometimes you can feel a little overwhelmed with work, school and life challenges and it takes initiatives like this to re-revolutionize your thoughts and get you on the upward swing again! Thanks Shaun Proulx Media family!

I am currently sitting in the food court at Metro Hall after 5 hours of excruciating professional administrative work and 2 hours of a University Computer Science lecture. I have just finished my proposal for a paper due very soon (read, TOMORROW!) and I am feeling a little spent. However, things that I can appreciate are the following:

    1. I am at Metro Hall because I am waiting for a training to start for my position on election day. I will be a Revising Officer. More importantly, as a citizen of Canada I can be involved in the democratic process of an election without regret or retribution from a third party. A right I feel that much of world does not have an opportunity to exercise.

    2. My proposal was on a documentary that I had watch about the use of water and the adverse affects the commercialization of water is having on our environment. The documentary is very critical of government bodies and I can publicly agree with the narrative. Again, its not every where on this planet where you can be critical of governments and get away with it. Much less, write a paper and sign your name to it.

Suddenly I feel energized with the thoughts of the many human rights I get to exercise as a citizen of Canada! I can afford to stay awake a few more hours and appreciate the very liberal life I lead!

    • That does sound overwhelming which is why I advocate the balance you get (and forward momentum) of creating time(s) in the day to stop and focus on what a brilliant life you lead. Last night I was writing in my journal after a day that was a blur and not only did I re-set myself, but realized (as always) so many good things happened in that blur it was absurd. Thanks for this Terrence!

  • I appreciate that the love my parents have for each other grows stronger everyday. Even after 44 years.

  • I’m grateful for the ability to start my day on a positive note: eating a healthy breakfast, reading an inspiring book (Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela), while sitting in the sunshine.

On a related note, I appreciate what yesterday brought to my life:
    – Starting the day by listening to a speaker gently encourage us to be present, pay attention, see what’s around you and ask questions… and then…
    – Stumbling across this 30 day challenge… followed by…
    – Watching the inimitable Roberta Jamieson inspire a group of Ontario leaders to take on the challenges facing indigenous youth in Canada

  • All the tenants in my building have been driven crazy for the past month with the intense hardcore power tools of jackhammers in concrete to balconies, sledgehammers, etc… The whole building has been vibrating, dust is everywhere, it’s very stressful on the system, but found ways to deal with it, and finally can say how #grateful I am, as I sure everyone in the building is that today, they poured the new concrete, so should get the beautiful new railings real soon which have glass in them too (before it was just ugly old metal), plus new windows, and doors, for a serious facelift to the apartments !! :))

  • I’m feeling appreciative/happy/thrilled that after wanting to take up a musical instrument for years, my mother discovered a band for adult beginners and has attended two practices. She’s loving it and I’m proud of her.

  • I have appreciate the life that I am living. I am grateful that I am able to open my eyes every morning. I am grateful that I have a loving relationship with my mom. I am grateful to be surrounded by family and friends who care for me and love me.

  • I am grateful that I have another chance today , after falling pretty hard off my alignment wagon into feeling sorry for myself yesterday… Up and at it ! thinking only for today which is my toughest challenge !

    • Thanks for sharing this one. The more you practise you alignment through applied appreciation like we are doing here, the softer the fall off the wagon and the less time it takes getting back into alignment. On another note, many people think that there will come a time when you are always in alignment and that is never going to be the case. If we aren’t falling out of alignment, we’re not living. The best part of alignment? The feeling of getting back into it.

  • To just see the news, I am absolutely grateful to live in this amazing nation we live in and how even my bigger problems look like an insignificant drop in the cosmic bucket of the universe by comparison. #Namaste

  • I appreciate waking up in a good mood today (!) with my own schedule to make …. a hot bath and a iced coffee seem like a good start

  • Had a great sleep last night, awoke this morning fresh as a daisy to exercise. I am grateful for Yoga & it’s magnificence to sync me with the light of the universe within myself as well as without. #Namaste mes ami, je vous désire un très belle journée a tous. :]

  • I’ve been listening to some audio books I have from Deepak Chopra & Marianne Williamson this weekend that I’d read a long time ago. I am grateful for their genius, their spirits & love, and for wanting to share their wisdom with us all.

    • One of my favourite things in the world is this piece by MW (and I know you love it too):

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

  • I appreciate the quiet before the storm of a holiday Monday ,… quiet time to myself today , (tomorrow will be the start of some serious ass kicking) 🙂

  • Today at work we held an event to support the United Way. It’s a grounding experience to be reminded of the important services the agency funds in all of our communities. I’m appreciative of their tireless efforts to make our city and province a better place for all of us.

  • I appreciate having the opportunity to share with you what I appreciate. I like putting it out there for others to read. I have a grateful journal that I write in every night before bed as well. 🙂

  • I’m a food lover and so today, I appreciate all the choices Toronto has to offer. I enjoyed a delicious Thai lunch.

  • My main computer, which is my livelihood, just died for the 2nd time in a month, as well as an external drive. It’s cost a lot of money & patience, but saw the opportunity as a justification to just purchase a new computer since the old was actually 5 years old now, which is a lot in “computer years” !! lol So am grateful to have a fresh to system to work with now.

    • Funny you should mention that. My trusty Mac is a grandfather by now and keeps on humming along like it’s brand new. I’ve been appreciating Ol’ Yeller for a while now!

  • I appreciate challenges and difficulties. They are sometimes the greatest gifts. More can be learned from a mistake sometimes and challenges make us think and problem solve.

  • I am grateful the Vatican & this great new Pope has finally started opening up for the first time in history to openly accept & respect gays for their “talents” & as human beings. It’s a start, and as always was quite hypocritical since Michelangelo & most of the geniuses of the Renaissance were all gay.

  • Today, I appreciate my coworkers… we work hard, laugh hard and make a difference, and that’s a pretty gratifying place to be.

    • That’s huge. I know so many people who resent theirs, and, frankly, I’m blessed to work for myself and with a small but mighty team behind me. I couldn’t imagine working with people I don’t like – kudos to you and your coworkers Darren!

  • Today I appreciate running into an old pal , a fellow musican/actor type and former gym buddy I hadnt seen for a few years while doing a mundane government -type paperwork stand in line type errand today. working BEHIND the counter of where i had to go !!! we had an awesome little visit and he helped me a lot with the things I had to do !!! coincedence ???? I did think of you , Shaun and ye olde Law Of Attraction 🙂

    • Okay, this, everyone IS what happens when you are doing so much appreciating that you raise your vibrational offering. Some may say Carrie’s old friend appearing in a helpful position was just co-incidence, but it’s really a co-operative incident that can be seen as physical evidence of how the world bends over backwards to help you with things big and small when you are offering the match it needs to do so. This week on this site I’m posting a video containing a tool: “5 Words To Change Your Life” that will help anyone wanting to continue to get better and offering a continuous high vibe. Watch for it!

    • On the weekend I spoke to a guy who just moved here from Australia and before that, LA. It was interesting to see our weather through his eyes – he’s just fascinated (and a bit scared of the cold). I love this time of year with all its weather unpredictability (snow day!).

  • Today I appreciate this great amazing sensational city we live in ! Having lived here most of my life, I’ve seen it grow & evolve through so much & glad for how the culture has flourished in so many ways in comparison to other ‘challenged’ places we all see in the news. That said, I really hope Torontonians will vote wisely next week to help us to get a new Mayor with their head & heart in the right place for the citizens of this world class city !!

  • I appreciate our healthcare system and, today in particular, physiotherapy. My physiotherapist helped bring me back to good health after I hurt myself playing sports. Today I had another “tune up” in advance of a run this weekend and I’m grateful to be able to get outside and be active and healthy.

  • This weekend is a big race weekend (half marathon) and I’m grateful for the inspiring community of runners, online and in-person, in Toronto and beyond.

  • I was getting ready last night to go out with a friend and realized how grateful I am for my lovely mother’s youthful genetics ! My friend made a comment and I had to agree that at these heights in my life, I can still manage to “Rock it” and stay in such great shape ! ;))

  • I appreciate a good home cooked meal. I love this cookbook that i’ve been using lately. Looney Spoons.

    • I’m Little Miss Crock Pot these days – appreciate the change in flavours and foods autumn brings, and a return to taking time to cook, which I never do in the summer.

  • Continuing the theme, today was race day. I’m so appreciative of the ability to run… The time and opportunity to work with a coach. And to take part in a sport where we celebrate reaching our goals by saying we got a new “personal best.”

  • I’ve had some serious back problems recurring from many years ago. So I am grateful for all the treatments I’ve been doing from acupuncture, yoga, electric therapy, magnetic therapy, etc. and for all the great results it’s bringing me and in keeping it manageable. I hope to be totally back to normal real soon!

    • I appreciate the wonder hands of my massage therapist who dug deep Friday to unknot my back which was in such weird pain suddenly I couldn’t sit up straight. He gave me some great tools to assist me with (Arda: ardarmt@me.com if anyone needs wonder hands)

  • Today i am so appreciative of beautifully arranged Chrismas songs… i know its a bit early, but im auditioning for some Christmas themed shows and learning the music they sent – – my poor poor neighbours. Im also appreciative of them not calling Security on me for belting my face off. Does that count for two? haha

    • No 😉
But I hear you on the Christmas thing. Once upon a time the end of summer left me truly physically despondent and one year I decided enough was enough. I spent the fall and winter deliberately looking for things to appreciate and now years later I enjoy both seasons thoroughly and welcomed them as summer ended this year. Christmas is a big part of that too – I don’t die a little anymore when I see holiday things out early (as I have, already, this year).

  • Today I appreciated the opportunity to talk about leadership, in all its forms, especially “leadership without title,” as Robin Sharma calls it. That’s the notion that all of us, regardless of our job title, can be dynamic, inclusive and successful leaders.

    • I would love to hear more about what you had to say. Lots of people want to lead, but few are natural at it. I appreciate the leaders in my life who provide inspiration, knowledge, wisdom, and who have cut a path for me to walk.

      • I spoke about the need to fill your head with leadership, keep absorbing, reading, listening and learning. Watch those you admire and consciously reflect upon their attributes and then emulate them. We talked a bit about positive thinking, including your technique of starting one’s day on a good note, which carries through the hours ahead. All in all, an inspiring conversation!

    • It’s good to appreciate the many conveniences in this world of convenience we live in. Sometimes my husband and I can’t help but laugh at how spoiled we are living in Toronto and in Canada!

  • I appreciate when people get very creative with Halloween. Today I drove behind a car that had a fake arm hanging out of the trunk. (at least I think/hope it was fake.)

  • Hey everybody, we just did a quick, rough tally and here’s where participants stand so far from the looks of it:
    Darren: 12
    Trevor: 11
    Angel: 10
    Carrie: 8
    John K: 6
    John M: 6
    Christopher: 3
    Terrence: 2
    Nicky: 1
    Leah: 1
    Andria R: 1
    Kat: 1
    Nelson: 1
Because the Challenge runs until end of November, you all still have lots of time to catch up or stay ahead. You only need to complete 30 Days between now and then. Good luck!

  • PS: A reminder that you must also subscribe to my #ThoughtRevolution newsletter to qualify. If you aren’t a subscriber, just click the ‘Register’ button at the top of this page to do so for free.

  • I appreciate a call from my therapist today who had a space free up this aft and asked me if I could use a little tune up today #perfecttiming #howdidyouknow #ittakesavillage

  • I’m grateful that I made the journey to live in such a diverse and vibrant city! At the same time, I’m very thankful for my upbringing in rural Ontario and the richness that brought to my life.

    • Good grief we have so much in common. It took me a while to appreciate living in rural Ontario (until I left it and saw how some kids grow up in the city) – but I look back at growing up on 150 acres with abandoned barns and a river running through it now with great appreciation. Even the 1/2 mile driveway I had to walk to catch the school bus – appreciate it!

      • Yes indeed! We lived within the boundaries of our village of 1,800 people, but we were on the edge and the view of our front window included a field where cows grazed. There’s a serenity about it, which I appreciate just as much as I like the energy of the city.

  • I appreciate that I inherited my grandmother’s sense of humour. It helps me find the silver lining in almost any situation personally and professionally, and it makes the people around me smile. @callmeMim

  • I appreciate when a stranger smiles at me for no reason. People should smile more. It really makes a difference. 🙂

      • *smiling right back* – Listened to the interview. Amazing. I’m going to challenge myself to this campaign. Though I always say hello and try to spark up a conversation to the people who are “serving” me in stores or restaurants I am totally guilty of staring at my phone in the elevator (even though I get no reception). I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes tonight when I get home. I can’t believe how many times she snotted into the phone. LOVED IT. lol.

  • Hey everyone, I thought I’d share some ‘next level’ stuff with you if you are interested in going beyond appreciation. Because what if you can’t find anything to appreciate in a situation you’re in, about a person you’re dealing with, about a subject where you want to create positive change but feel stuck. My new video post, 5 Words To Change Your Life will help. It’s right here: https://shaunproulx.ca//2014/10/21/change-your-life/ and share it with anyone you know who needs off a treadmill. Have a great day!

  • i appreciate having the patience to sometimes hold my tongue until all the facts are in or the heat settles down. Sometimes people overreact or are misinformed. Cooler heads prevail!

  • Today I appreciate having a rehearsal to go to that will get me up nice and early tomorrow so I can prepare.I often like the rehearsals more than the performances !!

  • With that terrifying & disturbing assault on our Parliament yesterday, and coming from a country where freedoms & liberties are always true blessings, I awoke so grateful for the oxygen in my lungs & a very healthy beating heart to get me through another day. I haven’t been back to my country to visit most of my life ’cause it didn’t seem safe, today it occurred to me how horrible it would be if such violence were to come to us here on our land..!

    • Hitting home seems like the understatement. I appreciate that this kind of thing remains relatively rare in our country; people around the world live in places where such things are commonplace.

  • I appreciate my new mantra that I learned at yoga this week, “Roll with the punches”. Just breathe through a situation that occurs. Stay calm, breathe, think…react. It truly helps.

  • I appreciate that I am not good with time management and paperwork. It helps me realize that i am not perfect ( I know images will be shattered) and that i always have something to work for and strive towards. I appreciate that i can admit my shortcomings and be open-minded to work on them.

  • Today I realized how grateful I am to be mobile. I saw a teenager on the subway in a leg cast, trying to make his way on crutches. It looked painful. I smiled at him. It’s easy to take for granted the ability to move pain free. Walking home every step was sweeter. That may sound cheesy, but it’s true 🙂

    • There but for the grace of God, I always think. Not that I’m religious but the sentiment is one I definitely feel when I see someone who makes me realize how fortunate I am.

  • I appreciate YOU, Shaun Proulx !!!!!! every time I even get slightly in alignment , good things happen …….the everyday reminders of doing this challenge are amazing !! xoxooxoxoxoxo

    • That’s because you’ve done all the work to cue things up and it’s waiting and ready for you to be a vibrational match to it. Sometimes I get vibrationally lazy and then realize I have because things are kind of meh and truly within the same day when I re-group everything falls back into place and then gets better from there. The good news is alignment is like meditation. You don’t lose ground with it if you fall out for a bit.

  • I appreciate old rich people. I worked a crazy hallween themed party last night for an eccentric rich woman. It was so interesting to see all of her art and the things she has collected over her 80+ years on this planet having more money than god.

  • I appreciate the Diwali treats a co-worker gave me and her sharing the meaning of “the festival of lights” and its celebration of hope, light, knowledge and good.

  • I appreciate geriatric yoga at IAMYOGA ok .. it was “Boomer” yoga supposed to be easy on the joints etc( ( and STILL everyone except me in the class looked like a 20 year old yoga teacher not student)) but I enjoyed the class and felt so thankful and emotional at the end of it.

  • I appreciate WICKED! So glad I got to see it again last night. I love everything about this show and its positive message. It’s not easy being green.

  • Right now, I appreciate music… its power to energize, to calm, to scare (a la Halloween) and to evoke memories.

  • Today I appreciate an AH HA moment at a seminar I was attending … a successful and thoughtful person talking about their lifes work and ideas . The ah ha moment was that NO ONE does it alone… the energy exchange of life long learning and teaching is very valuable

  • I appreciate the quiet moments in life. Tonight, in the stillness,
I’m looking out over the vast city horizon at all the twinkling lights… thinking of the millions of us that call this city home.

  • Today I appreciate the fact that teachers and helpers are always there, if you can be open and accept . wow .and the whole univererse didnt give up you just because you didnt get it the last 1000 times…… .:-)

  • I appreciate how my favourite movies make me feel and how they can take me back to a different time of my life. There’s nothing like curling up on the couch with an amazing movie. Like Clue or Death Becomes her or Truth or Dare. What are some of your faves?

    • Well you know I love some Truth or Dare but I don’t think anything tops Blue Jasmine. I have now watched it 5 times or more and could watch it again tonight. I just love every bit of that movie and of course CB is magnificent.

      • I haven’t seen Blue Jasmine. Once i’m done with Halloween Horror Movie Month I will take this recommendation. 🙂

  • I’m grateful to live a free & democratic society, unlike a lot of places in the world today still. I just went to do my civic duty & voted. Make sure you all vote for whomever your instincts tell you, or you lose the right to complain after folks !

    • Tweeted just that yesterday. Blessed to be in a place where we have the right to decide who runs the show. Although, ultimately, we all run our own shows regardless of government, institutions, employers, partners, etc. But I digress 🙂

  • I appreciate that I have an abundance of friends who serve the world in different ways: entertainers, paramedics, human-rights workers, nutritionists, teachers…so many wonderful people who contribute to making this world a healthier and happier place to live in.

  • Today i appreciate my view. I love pretending like im not in the crazy, busy, crowded city and looking out our windows towards the calmness of the sun bouncing off the lake.

  • I appreciate and am inspired by the young people in school today. Not long ago, co-workers and I had a conversation about how challenging it must be to grow up today. Today, I had the pleasure of joining high school students as they kicked off their United Way fundraising campaign. The passion, energy and commitment they have dedicated to their campaign was inspiring. A talented group volunteers had organized the event. I appreciate the opportunity to be there myself to see them in action, what they are doing for their community and the example they are setting for their fellow students.

  • I appreciate the generosity of people in my life. Their thoughtfulness, displayed in even the smallest of ways, allows me to not only benefit, but have the ability to share with others. It’s one of those days where Ill celebrate this by buying a coffee for the person behind me in line 🙂

    • I don’t know you but have found you to be very generous and open and that’s a great set point for generous people coming into your experience. I want to be behind you in line!

  • I appreciate being able to go for a walk at this time of year and looking at the beautifully coloured leaves falling from the trees. Fall is pretty.

  • I appreciate how lucky i am to be given the opportunities that i have in this lifetime to work, and more specifically, to learn from so many talented and brilliant artists and teachers.

  • I appreciate my ability to make a living by just talking. Which is funny because I had a lot of people tell me to shut up throughout my life.

  • today I appreciate being Canadian… with the freedom to vote and military funerals upon us, I feel elated, sad and very patriotic all at once… it’s quite a feeling.

  • Hey everyone, I had planned a post this week about the importance of staying in alignment no matter what – appreciation being the best way to accomplish this – when along came the Jian Ghomeshi story with all it’s complexity to make what I want to say even more on trend. “What To Do When Things Ghomeshi”: http://ow.ly/DumR7

  • I appreciate how a few moments of laughter and creativity with friends turned around what had somehow became a stressful end to the day!

  • I appreciate having a gig yesterday with such nice people … enjoying some chit chat afterwards and early return home: relaxing at home in bed eating delicious organic grapes by 11.now thats a good day 🙂

  • Today I appreciate fall. The colours, the smells, the chill in the air. It all speaks of endings but I see it as the beginning of change!

  • I am grateful change won & we got a new Mayor for our fair city ! Though Mayor Ford put us on the map, it seems it was for the wrong reasons, I like the idea of starting with a “tabula rasa” & some fresh blood to build this great city up & to the next level !!

    • Got it. Sometimes I’m so wrapped up in my work or thoughts or everything I catch myself breathing from just under my neck! Here’s to catching that and breathing properly. Oh, and you need to hook up with my husband. And by that I mean he’s the biggest Halloween freak; it’s all horror all the time around here.

      • Please ask Patrick if he has seen The Houses that October Built. I just recently found this gem. FREAKED ME OUT!!!!! One of my newest Halloween faves. I appreciate that I watched it during the day with the blinds open and the sun making me feel safe. lol.

  • Today we cleaned The Rustic Cabin and I am so appreciative of having this special space in my life and being able to share it with others.

  • Today I’m grateful for some friends & family I have in Spain, France & Italy. I met them when I first travelled back there in the early 90’s, now it’s so nice to still be in each other’s lives thanks to social media, and we message each other now & then, and it always really cheers me up to hear from them & look forward to seeing them again some time soon…

  • For all of my enthusiasm for technology, I still appreciate mailboxes, especially when neat paper things arrive in them. Tonight, it was one of my favourite magazines and so I immediately dove into an article while eating dinner.

      • Perhaps we were separated at birth? I sent a thank you card just a couple days ago…

…and finished that magazine before bed last night. 🙂

  • I appreciate my friend’s children, and the joy they bring into my life. I love how they say “I love you” without restraint or embarrassment, and how they laugh at the silliest of things (like today’s super hilarious joke: “you know what? Chicken Butt!” Cue the 30 second laugh)

    • At family dinners when it’s all “The Scene Norman Rockwell Forgot To Paint”, I stealthily open my fart app and let “Fart #9” rip. My nephews crying so hard from laughing as my mother – their gran – gives me shade is perfection.

      • I like to learn something new every day. Today, I learned two things: 1. Winnipeg has the most fast food restaurants in Canada 2. There’s a fart app…and that app is NOT endorsed by Shaun Proulx’s mother.

    • Okay, so let’s go to things we’ve talked about in workshops you have been to. What do you do when you are appreciating momentum? You milk it. Go on a rampage of appreciation now. Take it as far as you can. What is it about the feeling of this momentum you are enjoying? What are you eagerly anticipating? Get into a whole thing with this and then watch as things REALLY start going your way. Rinse and repeat. (And PS, this technique is exactly what most of us do when things are going WRONG. Works either way.)

  • I appreciate my partners balls (get your mind out of the gutter). It takes a lot of chutzpah to be an actor. He follows his heart and makes his dreams come true.

  • I appreciate the elements of surprise & positivity. Life is full of ups & downs for all of us. Sometimes there can be nasty people that cross our paths, other days there’s disappointment, but if we stay optimistic & hold on to our sense of hope, there will be people or days that totally bring back our faith in mankind & life all over again ! A motto I always go by is: “Embrace change, and expect surprises along the way”. =]

    • You have to believe the Universe is conspiring in your favour, as it is. My “When Things Ghomeshi” post from yesterday talks about one big whammy of a surprise that arrived in my experience last week. Good appreciation!

  • Do you realize I am the woman you watched Pretty Woman with in my bed??? Today I am thankful for a trip to the casino where I was blessed to make a healthy donation to my native brothers and sisters. So glad I can do this. Love to you, Valaria

  • I appreciate finding like-minded individuals, at work and in the community, with whom I immediately click. The kind of people you can just call up and have an authentic conversation. The kind of relationship where you don’t hesitate to support and look out for one another.

  • I appreciate my memories of Halloween simplicity of the late 70s/early 80s – costumes that were consisted of a one-piece plastic dress (like a decorated garbage bag!) and a mask you could barely breath with. I was Yoda one year, and Laura Ingalls from “Little House on the Prairie” the next year. I was very cool.

  • Today I appreciate a good night’s sleep. There’s something about the trust we have to give ourselves over to complete unconsciousness that amazes me every time I wake up.

  • i appreciate my love of seasons. i love the ever changing temperature, the colours of fall and spring. Even a winter run with the cold on my cheeks.Winter keeps the bugs small too! hahahaha

  • I appreciate the conversation I had this morning with a complete stranger on the elevator. I just said “hello” and then we talked and laughed. It only lasted 1.5 minutes but it was a great start to my morning.

  • So grateful, for what ever reason Mr. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple decided to come out openly as gay !! Not for any superficial reasons, but for the greater, deeper significance it will have in the lives of so many people lacking the courage or opportunity to come out & be freed as well ! He is such a powerful, high profile figure, and as a successor to my previous hero Steve Jobs, I’m beyond ecstatic with the whole situation, loving my Apple geekdom all the more, and curious to see what all the small minds will try to rebuke at him with, not that they matter or can do anything…! Happy Halloween to everyone in Proulx-land ! hugs y’all 😉

  • I appreciate the cultural diversity of my neighborhood much more after this Halloween night. They were all so polite and thankful. It gives me renewed hope for our youth.

  • Today I appreciate how staying calm and centered, no matter what, keeps a horrible situation from escalating. I lost my wallet yesterday (ugh) and instead of freaking out, I’m just taken it one step at a time. Yes loosing a wallet is a big drag, but it’s just stuff. Besides, I still have my health! Happy November everyone!

  • I attended a funeral this afternoon for the husband of a colleague. Listening to the speeches and looking at the pictures of him, I was struck by what a dynamic, generous, gentle and jovial life he led and, in the process, how many friends and family members he touched. Tonight, I appreciate the vitality of life itself and embracing every minute of it.

    • Weird…I wrote something very similar yesterday. Except instead of waking to pee at 7am, I wake up to go to work.

  • I appreciate cleaning out my storage locker and finding a box of photos that I haven’t seen in YEARS!!!!! (remember actual photos?). Such gems. Such memories.

  • I appreciate that we changed our clocks back this weekend because I LOVE waking up at 7am and having sunlight shining on my face. It makes it so much easier to start my day off right and head to work.

  • Today I appreciate my health. There are so many people who’s health isn’t great and still most of them go through life pleasantly, if not with a smile on their face. By comparison, even when I’m in my worse mood, I still have nothing to complain about. xox

    • You always have a great attitude RR. (Okay sometimes you’re a hellion.) But most times you have the best ‘tude and it’s one of the things I appreciate most about you.

  • I appreciate that I get to teach yoga for a living. With my words, energy, and humour coupled with this beautiful, ancient practice, I get to contribute to people’s life journeys by helping them discover their truths, broaden their boundaries, and hopefully feel just a little more comfortable in their own skin.

  • I appreciate a conversation I had today with someone who demonstrated such mastery of her subject area that it encouraged me to strive to do better myself.

  • I appreciate SILENCE. I live across the street from a condo development and had the opportunity to sleep at a friend’s place last night. To not wake up to drills, jack hammers and beeping trucks was absolutely divine!

  • I appreciate the fact my brother is willing to help me with some tricky business. Boy , we have come a long way

  • Hey everyone! It’s been a busy time and so haven’t had a chance to read everyone’s appreciations for a few days. I thought you would all enjoy knowing that your writings have inspired a Twitter follower of mine (whom I have never met) to create her own personal Appreciation Challenge as she goes through chemotherapy for breast cancer. She’s been watching what we’ve been up to on this page and decided to join in her own way 🙂

  • I appreciate that Bette Midler announced a tour for 2015 and has a new album coming out this month. I never got the opportunity to see her in Vegas so this will be a nice treat. The world could use more performers like Bette Midler.

      • That was so much fun. Although I think that the ACC slipped something in my beer as I don’t remember much of the 2nd half of the show and didn’t have too many drinks. LOL. Did you read what happened yesterday at Massey Hall with Prince? Shame.

  • Today I am grateful to each and every person in a foul mood, who’s crossed my path, yet still had the grace to not dump their ire on me. Thank you for understanding that we all have bad days and making someone else’s worse doesn’t improve anything! xox

  • I appreciate living in a country where it takes me longer to get my prescription filled, than is took for my Doctor to diagnose me. I can go to any Doctor I want, and I don;t have to check my bank balance before I go. BTW the meds have kicked in and I am feeling so much better.

  • Last night, I finally visited the library across the street from my home for the first time. I appreciate it as a place of learning and gathering in our community.

  • Today I am grateful for my friends. I didn’t have any growing up so I’ve always been afraid to piss off the ones I have. I’ve always been afraid of calling people too much and being a bother, but this week I had to rely on some of my friends for various reasons and they were all super supportive and available without any hint that I was being a bother. Yay for friends! xox

  • Today i am grateful for my great friends. Full of useful advice, grounded, not afraid to tell me when im not listening or when im wrong. I appreciate true friendship – its hard to come by.

  • I appreciate getting mail. I’m not talking about bills or something that I ordered. I’m talking about opening the mailbox and having something totally unexpected be in there, like a birthday card or a surprise package. I love that. 🙂

  • Kind of silly, but tonight I discovered the Songa Family Sing-along Christmas playlist… and within minutes, it had played three of my all-time favourite holiday songs. Then I heard that a good friend in Niagara Falls had put up her Christmas lights today and that another friend was listening to carols tonight too. It all put a smile on my face.

  • Today I appreciate fear. Not abject horror. I’m talking about the kind of fear that reminds you that you’re alive! I feel it every time I’m about to go on stage. It keeps me focused and humble. I love it!

  • I appreciate that I have the ability to cook up a storm in the kitchen. I am fortunate to not have to go through life eating processed crap (if I don’t want to).

  • I appreciate having 1000 things to do at home today while I am waiting for the UPS man to come. and things are getting done, too !!!!! thanks UPS

  • I’m appreciating an approaching visit from my mom and I just bought tickets for us to go to the symphony… it will be her first time seeing the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in action!

  • I appreciate the fact that as I am DREADING going outside for a days errands in our instant rainy winter temperature drop , I do have warm clothes to wear .many do not

  • Today I appreciate the freedom to take chances. There are so many people in so many places in this modern world of ours who aren’t allowed to make choices for themselves: Who they love, Where they live. It’s amazing to me that some countries are like prisons to their very own citizens. I think it’s important to honour our freedom by expressing it fully, and I do that by taking full advantage of it by leaping before I look, throwing caution to the wind and taking a chance at least once a day. It’s what being free is all about! xox

  • Ever read The Happiness Project? I happened to open it up again tonight and one of the chapters speaks to the benefits of keeping a gratitude journal, to take note of life’s blessings, big and small. I’m grateful for the appreciation challenge that has created a crowd-sourced gratitude journal for everyone taking part.

  • I appreciate being able to go to bed early last night ..it doesnt sound exiting , but it felt pretty good 🙂

  • I’m grateful for opportunities life presents to keep learning through adulthood. I joined a friend this morning to learn together and this afternoon, picked up a book that I know has technical content that will take time and focus to absorb.

  • Today I appreciate a good night’s sleep. You know what I’m talking about: Sleep so deep, you don’t even roll around. You wake up in more or less the same position as you did when you lay down 7, 8 or more hours ago. It puts the whole day in a lovely light and I’m always ready for anything! xox

  • I appreciate a ride right exactly home to my door that could have been a 2 hour bus ride , plus a cab …on a rainy night …..

  • I appreciate Christmas in November. Because my partners stepmom goes away for the winter we got to celebrate Christmas early this year. I love the holidays and I love family.

  • Today I appreciate that quiet time in the morning before the world starts it’s day. And by world, I mean construction workers. LOL. I like to sit on my balcony with a tea no matter what time of the year it is and enjoy that quiet calm. I drink it in and take it with me throughout my day so I can get through the loud moments.

  • I am grateful for my new iPhone which replaces a crappy old phone. Plus, it has been so brilliantly redesigned from the ground up, its going to be a sensational new tool for productivity & creativity in my life 🙂

  • I appreciate my friends who i’ve known for 22 years. They are as close to non-blood related family as you can get.

  • I appreciate that so many things in life can be win-win situations. For example, I’m fundraising to participate in the Hockey Helps The Homeless tournament, where the proceeds go to creating programs for homeless youth in the GTA helping them get a fresh start.

It’s a win-win because I get to have the hockey experience of a lifetime, playing with other wonderful women including Olympians from Team Canada and Team USA – Im so excited

  • I’m grateful to have been challenged, many years ago, to reflect upon the topic of values, and to decide which of them I want and need to see reflected in all my pursuits – professional, personal and volunteer. The decisions I made then came in handy recently during a period of introspection around a particular issue. By grounding myself in my values I was able to unpack a problem that had been troubling me for quite some time.

  • Today I am appreciative of patience. All good things come to those who wait is my motto today. That said, I think that waiting doesn’t mean sitting and staring. It means you still have to work towards something. The trick is to not freak out if the time till the fruits of your labour are in your hand isn’t as short as you’d like. It’s on it’s way. Trust me.

  • I appreciate how much my outlook on life, and myself have evolved. Yesterday I spent my birthday by myself and had a blast. I realized that even though I was alone, I wasn’t lonely. I was still surrounded by so much love and positivity (not in human form) that I didn’t feel the need to be surrounded by friends and family as I have in the past. I was looking through the clouds and finding as much blue sky that I could.

  • I am grateful for the ability to learn from situations and grow and change for the better. I’ve always done it and probably always will – it makes life worthwhile and keeps me interested and involved.

  • I appreciate companionship. Sometimes it’s nice to share space with another living being, without the need to speak.

  • Feeling grateful to be living within the peaceful borders of this country and thankful to those, including my great uncle, that journeyed overseas to fight for the freedom of those in other countries. Still, I know that many in the world are still suffering from war and violence and that with our opportunity comes responsibility to help.

  • On #RemembranceDay I’m grateful for all the freedoms & liberties we are all granted for the ultimate sacrifice our veterans paid for our country ! Proud to be #Canadian ! Thought I’d share this photo I shot in Vancouver when I was there.. captures the message nicely 🙂

  • I appreciate having baths.. long, soaking , draw out everything, baths.
a small luxury I really enjoy in this life

  • Today I appreciate being alive and well. Sure I could be richer or thinner, but those are the details. The big picture is life itself. It’s rare and precious, this life. We’re unique souls and our goal should be to shine as brightly as possible and that’s the gift we’re given every day, the opportunity to shine!

  • I appreciate life’s opportunities to explore & grow different aspects of myself; like doing stand-up comedy in addition to teaching yoga 🙂

  • I appreciate my recent discovery of audio books. These make my dreaded commute to and from work more tolerable and allows me to feel as though i’m no longer wasting time.

      • I am going to starting listening to past (and current) broadcasts of your show (since I don’t have a subscription to Sirius I will listen to you through your website). Do you have any recommendations of workshops ?

  • Hey everybody! I haven’t done the math but by now a few of you must be thisclose to qualifying for our trip! Keep it up!

I’m considering keeping up the Challenge for those who have been benefiting from it, and to allow new people to participate. Any feedback would be appreciated.

A new video went up today: “5 MORE Words To Change Your Life” in which I discuss what a manifestation really is and share five words that really assist me in manifesting: https://shaunproulx.ca//2014/11/12/manifesting/ Check it out 🙂

  • Zipping home tonight, speed walking with hands and arms balancing my briefcase, shopping bag and dry cleaning, something prompted me to take notice of the quiet stillness around me. Yes, in downtown TO, between Carlton and Wellelsley. For some reason, just quiet and a few people walking. I slowed my pace and appreciated that moment at the end of the day.

  • I appreciate all the brave people who stood up in front of the crowd last night for the first time to read their own writing. These were people that weren’t used to public speaking or sharing their art. They all did a great job. Takes guts. Proud.

  • Today I am enjoying the sunshine and warmth sitting out in the Lanai working. The Lanai is in Florida…I get a reprieve on winter until December, then back to reality. I love that I can work from anywhere there is an internet connection.

  • Today I appreciate The Smile! I noticed how nice I feel when I get a random smile from a stranger passing me on the street. It’s a simple thing. I don’t know that person. They don’t have to acknowledge me. But a smile is almost effortless. It takes almost no energy to do it and the feelings it inspires are unmeasurable! So now, I try to remember to have a smile on ny face, whether I’m passing someone on the street or not!

  • Today I appreciate the cloudy days, both figuratively and literally. It’s those darker moments that help us to treasure the light, no matter who long it shines. xox

  • I appreciate that my parents sent me to a French Immersion school when I was growing up. Once in a while it comes in handy.

  • I appreciate a FREE saxophone seminar at my local music store .. in a cross between a school and a coffee house setting : great ideas , like minds talking about ideas, and INSPIRATION for thinking outside of the box !! more than free , Priceless !!

  • Feeling grateful that this colder weather means I can break out more winter running gear. I honestly enjoy the winter so much more after I started embracing it a few years back. By going cross country skiing at least once and running outdoors almost as much as usual, I really enjoy this season.

  • Very thankful that Toronto is such an incubator for talent – art, music, sports – which creates such an abundance of experiences in which we can all take part.

  • So last night I had two shows at Yuk Yuks in Vaughan. Usually, on a two show night, the second show is rough…mostly because the audience has had a few, it’s late and everyone’s feeling their oats. If they’re chatty, it can kill your timing/momentum. If they’re particularly hard to perform to, it can ruin your whole night because you replay your ‘shoulda/woulda/couldas’ in your head. You replay all the things you should have said to shut up the hecklers and get your show back on track . Well, last night was very different. For some reason, the first show was way more belligerent than expected. They even had to kick a few chatty Kathy’s out! The second show, on the other hand, was fabulous and full of fun people who wanted to laugh and have a good time. It was a great show and a wonderful way to end the evening. So today I appreciate being pleasantly surprised. It has taught me not to expect the worst or at the very least, the mildly annoying.

  • I’m thankful for my health – just saw a little girl in the Santa Claus parade who has leukemia. She’s had over 600 chemo treatments and it was the first time she hasn’t watched the parade from her hospital room. Broke my heart. I’m thankful she had that great experience today 🙂

  • I appreciate the time my mom and I spent together putting up the Christmas tree – a treasured moment – along with the 250 sparkling lights that will bring joy for the weeks to come!

  • I appreciate being out of town for the day , quiet and peaceful , fresher air and friendly folks who wave to you when you are taking a morning walk down the country road !! ….that surprized me, I ve been downtown too long I guess

  • Looking at the weather, it’s snowing this morning. How am I feeling? I’m appreciative that I get to walk to work with fresh snow on the ground around me. I’m happy that I get to pick out a favourite winter scarf to wear. And I’m looking forward to all of the fun and adventures the season holds ahead.

  • I am grateful to live in a city that is so festive around this time of year. I love seeing all of the decorations and lights and today’s snowfall definitely helped me stay in the holiday mood so early on.

  • So. I had to renew my passport. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. As I’m not due to leave the country again until Feb., I’ve been putting it off. Until today. I got to the passport office on Victoria Street by about 9am. I had to fill out my application before they would give me a number.

Note to you, gentle reader: Don’t go near a government office without downloading and printing all the forms you need to fill out so you can arrive with them done and in hand. It’s a huge time saver!

It felt like a million people filed past me to get their numbers while I filled out the form. By the time I got my number, the room was packed! What amazed me was the number of people there WITH LUGGAGE! Talk about leaving things to the last minute. As you can imagine, tensions were a little high. But I had no where to be. I had brought all my documents and pictures and had no where to be for hours. I was out by 9:48! My number had a C in front of it. When I got in, there were 119 Cs ahead of me. But the clerks were also calling numbers with the letters A, B, D and F. I don’t know why no Es. Anyway, the Cs must have been easy clients to work with because they were cutting through them lickity split! When I got up to the counter, the clerk processed my application for renewal without incident until I got ready to pay. She said they were having problems with their debit machine. But when I used it, it worked! The woman at the counter next to me had apparently been trying more than a few times.

Anyway, that long winded tale is to show I’m grateful for this 30 day Challenge. As Shaun himself has said, I just feel better. I can’t say that any differently. Sure stuff still annoys me and there are people in my life I’m not a fan of, but so what? Focusing on positive things is a way better time killer than complaining to anyone who’ll listen. lol xox

  • I appreciate PINK Christmas lights ! ha. PINK !!! they were even on sale and I had some Canadian Tire money too. looking at them makes me feel happy. I might need more …

  • I appreciate the evolution of technology. I often found myself getting frustrated when having to speak with call centres. Lately I have found that most of them can be dealt with online in a private chat. Easy, faster and much less frustrating and annoying. So happy with this.

  • I appreciate the girl who showed up today and needed a parking space for one month in my building just as I was having to pay an extra month with no car in my space. #ahundreddollasisahundredollas yipppppieeee

  • Feeling happy and grateful to find a few unexpected minutes – 30 of them, to be exact – for reading and contemplation this afternoon.

  • I appreciate the reaction I got from my friend after I called her just to tell her I was thinking of her and that she is a wonderful person. I made her day.

  • Today I appreciate the power of treating yourself well! I’ve been having a lot of arguments with my bed lately. They all end with me not sleeping well and my back hurting enough to wake me up. Well, I decided yesterday to stop wallowing in a bad situation so I bought myself some new sheets and a comforter. Now I know that these things don’t improve a bed’s comfort and support, but sliding into those crisp new sheets and pulling that warm fluffy comforter up around my chin made me feel like I was in a 5 star hotel. Best night’s sleep ever! Just saying. xox

  • I appreciate it when a somewhat impromptu decision to attend a gathering turns into so much more. Tonight, I caught up with an old friend I hasn’t spoken to in years, learned all about a photography course another friend is taking and spoke with others about giving back to the community. An enriching experience all around.

  • I appreciate that one of my best friends has a job where she is able to travel to Toronto once a month for work. She lives in Chicago so we wouldn’t be able to see each other as much if she didn’t have this job.

  • I appreciate my mom. A friend’s mom unexpectedly passed away last night. I can’t imagine how HORRIBLE that feels. When I talk to my mom today, I’m going to let her know how much I truly appreciate her.

  • Today I appreciate the simple fact that your surroundings can affect you, for the good or bad. For months I’ve been in a funk. Nothing serious, just a veil of malaise. This has been reflected in my apartment. It’s been in a state of organized chaos. And since it’s a bachelor, it needs to be organized or else I’m forever moving piles of stuff from one clear surface to another to make room for the simplest of activities, like sitting and sleeping. Anyway, after I bought new sheets for my bed, I was inspired to action. Not only have I been tidying and reorganizing but I bought a bouquet of roses for myself. I never buy myself flowers. It’s something I save for when I’m visiting friends. I also have all my grandmother’s collection of vintage tea cups which I’ve put out so I can see them. It’s looking better and better as I work through the madness. Next up, I’m putting up my Christmas decorations. I love Christmas but last year I didn’t bother decorating. I left it too late and then wasn’t interested in decorating for just a week or two. Not this year. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in here now, and don’t we all need a little Christmas from time to time? xox

  • I appreciate understanding a little more these days about how I see other people being more a reflection of me than it is of them… I am working with someone for , maybe the 4th or 5th time over a 20 year period and noticing my own vibe now is much quieter and I see their forceful confident personality more as fierce diva than abrasive and off putting. love that.

  • After many days and weeks of hard work, debate, revisions, and approvals, my team landed some really big wins today. So pleased to see our perseverance pay off.

  • Today I appreciate people who pull it together. Appearance wise, I mean. Not those people who pull it together by over achieving, they chap my ass! No, I’m talking about those delightful individuals who pull a look together, head to toe. I truly appreciate it. When I see someone who looks smart, I smile. Because of that, I try to pull it together a little more than I usually would myself.

  • Had a sensational week art directing & designing a great variety of work at a new client’s offices this week. So really grateful for this wonderful new opportunity, got to strut my stuff & they’re really loving me & my work, so super happy my industry’s picking up ! Happy Friday 🙂

  • This Friday evening, I’m continuing to appreciate how, at the end of a long busy stretch, a number of good “things” fell into place… Which perhaps is the result of an extended period of conscious gratitude and positive energy?

  • This week I’m appreciating the fruits of my labours. As a performer, I do a lot of stuff for free: performances, independent TV and film projects and now, more and more, web content. Well something that I did as a lark 3 years ago is starting to grow. I’m in talks with people about a project that wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t taken a chance. The lesson? Everything is an opportunity. Don’t waste it! xox

  • I appreciate when movie theatres show “classics”. I love Reality Bites and it was so cool to see it again in a movie theatre. Took me right back to 1994.

  • Today I appreciate the ‘Cheat Day’. That day off from dietary restrictions or diets that allow us to partake in the foods we obsess about when we don’t just eat them whenever we want. I had a huge craving this week for potato chips and Chinese Food this past week. Guess what I had for dinner? YUMMY. The upside is, I indulged my cravings. The downside is, i didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Eating chips and refried rice was heaven, don’t get me wrong. But after was another story. I felt bloated and gross when it was all said and done. Something tells me I won’t be craving these two things for a little while now.

All in all, a cheat day is a great way to keep your cravings in check and to set goals/rewards. If I can make it through a work week without cheating, I reward myself on my cheat day with whatever it was that I was craving all week. Next week? Candy! xox

  • I appreciate walking around Kensington Market today in this “tropical” weather . really really seems WARM ! ha !

  • I appreciate getting such a solid night’s sleep last night and what a positive impact it had on my day today. It really makes a difference. Now, time for bed.

  • I appreciate a magazine article I just finished in the Walrus magazine that contained such rich vocabulary that, in some cases, it sent me looking for a dictionary, though not so often that I couldn’t understand the narrative. What’s more, it also contained a few literary references that had me searching for more information online. It was an all round enriching read.

  • Can I pick the warm weather again ????!!!! cause I really really really do appreciate NOT freezing 🙂 balcony doors wide open thinking about a BBQ !

  • I appreciate openness. Ill use the example of filling in for another yoga teacher yesterday. She has a dedicated following and some of her regulars who had never been to my class looked taken aback. I asked them to keep an open mind, as if they have already decided there is nothing I can teach them, they’re right. However, if you keep an open mind, you may teach yourself something and have fun in the process. The feedback after class was great and it’s all because they were willing to be open. I appreciate that 🙂

  • I appreciate that I make time for my body. That feeling after a good workout or yoga class is VERY satisfying.

  • I appreciate my wonderful friends janet and her girlfriend aimee who got me a ticket for Stevie wonder tonight !!!! Waiting with them here at acc for the show now !!! Surprise !!!! It’s early Christmas !!!

  • I appreciate that the whole Ghomeshi thing has opened a conversation and given women courage to speak up and be BELIEVED. including MYSELF>

  • I appreciate it when an unexpected but welcome helping hand and guidance appears from a friend. That happened to me today and in the process, the friend is giving me information about a tool I could use to reach some of my goals next year.

  • So, i dropped the ball slightly. It’s been a few days since my last Gratitude Post. But I’m okay with that. I’ve been very busy reaping what I’ve sewn. See, I’ve spent my whole life wanting to be a performer and asking the universe to deliver. What I’ve learned from that is: you can’t ask. You have to tell.
Since starting this project, I’ve been telling everyone, including myself, how happy I am. How content I am. Instead of looking at where I’m not, I’ve been looking at where I am. And what I’ve learned is that I’m right where I want to be and facing the direction I want to go in. It’s a different world when you acknowledge this. That whole ‘the grass is always greener’ style of thinking is a killer. Better to tend to the grass your standing on and making it the greenest possible.
That all said, I’ve been busier than I’ve ever been in my life and this time, I’m busy the way I want to be. Doing stuff I want to do. I’m very grateful and happy and I’m not sure I would be aware of this if I wasn’t telling myself this daily. xox

  • I appreciate the food that my boss brings for us to eat at our early morning staff meetings. Sometimes it’s the little things that make such a difference.

  • I appreciate the energy that comes when you just get up and start doing something …even though you didnt want to. going to the gym 4 , 3, ,2 , 1 … cmon energy!

  • Tonight I attended a work event where we celebrated the success of a colleague. She had just navigated a temporary assignment, spending quite a few challenging yet rewarding months leading a department. And she did it with grace, intelligence, humour and high standards. I appreciate her leadership and am thrilled to see her succeed.

  • I appreciate my theater coach for being understanding when I got triple booked for today and couldnt do the workshop I had been planning and looking forward to…. partly time of year partly Appreciation Challenge , I think , but I ve gone from zero to 60 this month. ( next step : make Money! ) I am loving this forum, Shaun ! 🙂

  • Hi everyone! I want to let you know that while I have not been on here as frequently as I have been, I get an email with your comment each time every one of you posts one – I’m loving reading all your appreciations! My favourite are the ones where you are appreciating this Challenge forum (and thank you for the private notes some of you have sent). Because this forum appears to be an asset to so many of you, after today (final day to qualify for our draw) I am going to keep this forum open, live, 24/7 for everyone to enjoy. There will not be a contest attached, just the win of feeling good and therefore attracting good, but we may pop on from time to drop some prizing love on current participants 😉 Please feel free to share this Challenge with others who may appreciate the boost it offers. My only ask of new participants will be that they try out my #ThoughtRevolution newsletter (which they are welcome to unsubscribe from if it’s not their cuppa) when they join our Challenge. Thanks again, glad this is of value and good luck to those of you who have completed 30 Days – we will draw a name shortly and share the good news soon!

    • This truly has been life changing. I appreciate so much more every day since starting your challenge. Thank you for bringing this into our lives. I will continue doing this as well as my grateful journal as I love the results. It is true that when you appreciate more and put that positive energy out there it comes back to you in full force. Thank you Shaun. 🙂

  • PS – I invite you all to read my new post in honour of World AIDS Day this Monday, it’s called “HIV Divorce” (https://shaunproulx.ca//2014/11/28/hiv-divorce/). I would love to know what you think. Also please join me on Reddit at 1pm Monday for an AMA (ask me anything) about my post and HIV and AIDS in general (https://www.facebook.com/events/323522497831103/.If) you’re in the Toronto area Monday night, please join me at Voices of Hope, a benefit for Casey House. I’m honoured to co-host this special evening along with Reverend Doctor Joseph Mastandrea, featuring luminaries including This Hour Has 22 Minutes’ Gavin Crawford, and tour de force Sharon Matthews. • I appreciate having the opportunity to work from home today. I’m saved from having to go outside and face the cold. And working in my pyjamas isn’t so bad. 🙂

    • This year I returned to working from a home office. I’ve done both since working for myself and always come back to being in the comfort of my home. You must be disciplined, but that’s easy when you love what you are doing. This am I was was at CBC for an on-air spot and bless the CBC but I saw all those cubicles and desks and just wanted to shoot myself. Couldn’t ever never again.

  • Today I appreciate eating well. And by well, I mean healthy. I’ve cut out a lot of stuff I don’t need to be eating right now: sugar, cheese, bread, pasta, potatoes, things that are high on the Glycemic Index. Because of that, I’ve been eating at home more often which means cooking. I love it. It’s been three weeks and I’m already feeling better, less bloated, but so is my grocery bill. When you clock off those food groups and the prepared foods that use them, you’re removing some of the bigger priced ticket items at the store. So I’m saving money by buying healthy and cooking at home…and it’s good for me too. Yay! xox

  • So grateful for the last 2 weeks of hard intense work, doing a great variety of art direction, design, for web, print, signage, & a wide variety of projects in a very fast paced environment with a really sweet, professional, friendly group of people which also feeds my social needs !! The fact that I had to trek all the way to Markham & so sleep deprived, and get up @ 5:30 am meant nothing for the rewards & appreciation I’ve gotten there ! 🙂

  • I am grateful for having such a truly open mind at all times, for I know and understand that I shall be learning until the last breathe in in my lungs. I am also so thankful for all those around me that #inspire me to keep #learning, #growing & #evolving in my journey. I always remember my father saying when he was alive: “All I know is, I know nothing.”

  • A couple experiences today reminded me how grateful I am for the great strides made by the LGBT community. In particular, I’m thankful and appreciative for those pioneering activists that fought, physically, emotionally and politically, to build the acceptance many of us in Canada have today.

  • So today I appreciate my co-workers. Even the ones who rub me the wrong way. I’ve been at my job in one form or another for 7 years. In that time, I’ve met and worked with some of the best in the business. They’ve all contributed greatly in one way or another to our collective work environment and therefore made work a better place to be. Today I appreciate those brilliant souls who’ve come, thankfully stayed or have sadly gone. Yes, even the one’s who’ve rubbed me the wrong way. xox

  • I appreciate my partners Grandmother. So full of wisdom and amazing life stories. I love visiting with her and listening to what she has to say. I appreciate that she welcomes me into her family as one of her own. I don’t get this luxury with my grandparents anymore so this is a wonderful gift.

  • I’m grateful for my good close friends who’ve been around forever through the good, the bad & the ugly times to help each other with shoulders/ears and to celebrate some really wicked awesome times !!!

  • I appreciate all the taented people who put up teaching videos and tutorials on youtube .. there really is so much information out there and those people took the time to share what they know. and its FREEEEEEE.

  • Today I appreciate letting things go. If they were really meant for me, they’ll come back. Better to let what happens happen in some cases than to make myself crazy fighting a losing battle. xox

  • I am grateful for the hardships & struggles I’ve had to endure, for they have made me so much stronger than I knew I even was !! It’s only through this process in life that we are allowed to evolve & grow to reach the next levels ! 🙂

  • I appreciate hope. It feels kind of amazing to find myself thinking “tomorrow is going to be a great day” because I will be making the best of it.

  • Looking at the calendar, I see that the challenge comes to a close today. I remain grateful that I found it several weeks ago and that through it, I opened myself to positive new experiences and opportunities, several of which have come my way recently.

My partner and I are going to continue the challenge with a slight variation, tracking good things in our lives throughout the year ahead to revisit next December. Our project/list will include things for which we are grateful and thankful, as well as other great moments that happen throughout the year ahead.

Many thanks Shaun for issuing this challenge!

    • You are most welcome and the Challenge continues thanks to great feedback like yours. My husband and I are creating an offline version beginning NYE. We are buying a massive jar and some slips of notepaper and beginning Jan 1 we will jot down little things and big things we appreciate, put them in the jar, and revisit them at the end of 2015. I’m excited about this new tradition!

    • Hi Darren this is to confirm that you have qualified to enter our draw for a trip for two aboard The Shaun Proulx Party Plane next month. Please email me at shaun@shaunproulxmedia.com with your daytime contact phone number ASAP. We will be announcing the winner Monday but will call to notify them first. Congratulations and good luck!

  • I’m grateful for having been able to manage & keep my Sciatica under control for the last few months with keeping myself informed & listening to my body as to what helps it & what doesn’t to alleviate the discomfort, pain & limitations thus caused when I don’t look after it !

  • Though this is a really hectic crazy time of year for me, and I think most people too, I am grateful for the beautiful, warm, loving spirit of this season to share with all our dear & special ones with gifts, parties, food, gatherings, etc. Happy Holidays to everyone !! A. 🙂

  • Though of course I like it when our Canadian dollar is strong in the World marketplace, I have to admit, since it’s been dropping recently, it actually does help my industry for getting work because the US then gets us to do all their marketing/advertising for cheaper here in Canada. This all means it helps my industry get back on its feet again after a long slump with their economy & how it affects us here. So I’m grateful work has been picking up in the last few months for me immeasurably !!

  • I appreciate that you have kept this open even though the contest is closed. I don’t want to stop sharing what I appreciate. 🙂

  • Today I appreciate life. I was at a memorial for a friends mother on the weekend. Her mother died about a month before mine. They were very different women. My mother created mental barriers and obstacles to restrict her and keep her from happiness. My friend’s mother flourished and bloomed in the face of adversity. We’re all here on this planet. Some lives are great and some not so much. But it’s what we do with them while we’re here that makes the difference. Do we want to victims or firebrands. It’s a choice that’s up to us. Personally, I choose to light the sky on fire! xox

    • I don’t know who originally wrote this, but Diane Sawyer gave Oprah an award a while ago and I never forgot what she said in her speech: The best kind of people never yawn, or say a commonplace thing, but burn across the sky so that everyone else looks up and says, ‘wow’.”

  • Okay now that we are reverting to making this a simple daily challenge, I’m joining in. I appreciate the openness of my colleagues in media – many of whom I don’t know personally – but who welcome me onto their shows and platforms today, World AIDS Day, to share my ideas from my HIV Divorce post. I feel blessed to be able to share my thoughts so widely.

  • I appreciate being connected with a lot of really swell people in the last couple of months , working on various projects and by extention their family and friends. The simple human connections have been really good for me in a pretty challenging time. I open myself up to be vulnerable and real more every day .It is my goal to be authentic and find my purpose.

  • I appreciate anyone who is willing to make a positive change. Whether it is for themselves or for others.

  • I spoke a deep personal truth – like a nuclear bomb – the other day, and while it wasn’t pleasant and I still feel raw, I appreciate that I honoured myself by doing it.

  • Today I appreciate family. I’m having dinner with my brother and his wife. And although we’re meeting on a somber occasion, to remember our mother, I’m very much looking forward to spending time with them. They are one of the best, happiest, connected couples I’ve ever seen and their union warms my heart! xox

  • Today I appreciate my friend Val, who is my mother’s age and has known me since I was five. Sometimes it’s good to talk to someone who has been in your life that long.

  • Today I appreciate not being complacent! I tried to have what turned out to be a very disappointing meal at a popular Toronto Steakhouse. I was so disappointed with my meal, I sent it back. I never do that but at the prices they were charging, I wasn’t going to let them take advantage of me. Without incident, I sent the meal back and just enjoyed my wine. It turned out to be just as enjoyable an evening all around and I enjoyed making eggs when I got home. xox

  • I appreciate the courage my friend has, she is starting to see the light and is considering leaving her abusive “partner” to make a better life for herself and her baby.

  • Today I appreciate helping. It is our duty to assist those we surround ourselves with. To sit idly by and do nothing isn’t what friends do. xox

    • Hi Richard this is to confirm that you have qualified to enter our draw for a trip for two aboard The Shaun Proulx Party Plane next month. Please email me at shaun@shaunproulxmedia.com with your daytime contact phone number ASAP. We will be announcing the winner Monday but will call to notify them first. Congratulations and good luck!

  • Today I’m appreciating that – and this is rare – I have the whole place to myself. It is empty but for me a dog and cat. Not that I don’t love my husband, and my team – BUT.

  • I appreciate the people I choose to surround myself with. They make me feel good and I in turn make them feel good. Win win.

  • Here is what i am appreciating … the fact that it has become a habit to think about what I am appreciating !!!! that good energy bounces back to me when I manage to get the positive flow going !!

  • I appreciate when my partner knows I won’t want to cook after work and brings home an already cooked meal from the grocery store.

    • Hi Trevor this is to confirm that you have qualified to enter our draw for a trip for two aboard The Shaun Proulx Party Plane next month. Please email me at shaun@shaunproulxmedia.com with your daytime contact phone number ASAP. We will be announcing the winner Monday but will call to notify them first. Congratulations and good luck!

  • Today I appreciate being happy. Sure there are things in my world that chap my ass and people who try to rock the boat, but they don’t define me. I do. And I’m happy, damn it! xox

  • Yesterday I saw an energy healer. I appreciate self-care, and my friend Sergio who many years back opened me up to the idea of how important it is do do things for yourself.

  • Back again for more! Here’s a big thing in my life that I appreciate right now. My little brother (not so little now) just had a baby girl on Thursday night. Coincidentally, I’m in his city on business and so this afternoon, after finishing up work, I got to hold my baby niece for the first time. What a joy!! She’s absolutely adorable. She is also tiny – what a miracle is birth and life.

  • I appreciate the time I got to spend with my mom today. We always have so much fun together. She is a wonderful woman.

  • today I appreciate the bright winter sun that i THINK bounces off the new glass condos across the street and shines all over my bed. (There never used be sun like this in my north facing window ).lol it is GLORIOUS.

  • I appreciate the effort we have put into our condo. Every time I come home I look around and am so thankful for this space.

  • I used to loathe winter. At my worst hating I would actually get despondent around the end of August when I thought about what was ahead. Then years ago, when I was beginning to work with the Law of Attraction in my life, I decided to change my thoughts about winter by deliberately looking for things about the season that were pleasing. Turns out there are lots. I appreciate that today and I appreciate enjoying this season so much now I actually looked forward to it this year!

    • I agree with you. We have much to enjoy about winter and do all season long. It also helps us appreciate summer heat that much more!

There is an interesting and revealing documentary I saw last winter about how residents of several other Nordic countries have embraced winter in all its glory, through activities festivals, sports and, if I recall correctly, continuing to use restaurant patios in the cold months. You might enjoy it because a core theme is appreciating winter.

  • I used to dread waking up on Mondays. But now I appreciate them because I get to go see my fave yoga instructor and take her class. I always leave inspired.

  • I appreciate Madonna. Though I don’t have the same connection with her as years past I know and appreciate how important she has been in moulding me into the wonderful human being I am today. Not a day goes by without listening to at least one of her songs and a thought about how influential she has been for me and MANY others in the world.

  • I appreciate 2 peoples compliments this week that I look “better ” and less stressed, although my first impulse was to argue that it wasn’t true , I quieted that inner voice down and took not ONE but TWO compliments ! ha!

  • Today I appreciate being employed. We all hate our jobs to some degree and if we don’t hate our jobs, there are certainly people there that can challenge our clam. I put it all into perspective by comparing the hurdles work presents to the hurdles that unemployment would present and suddenly those bastard situations don’t seem so big and important! Foot note, I actually love all my jobs! xox

  • Today I appreciate the rather intense but richly rewarding week-long year-end planning my team and I are doing. We are pulling things apart, number crunching, analyzing, dreaming, imagining, creating – all in sweats with teas in hand. If I see one more Excel spread sheet I’ll choke – two more days left – but there is a clarity and sense of direction within my organization right now I wouldn’t change for anything.

    • Sounds pretty awesome. I am at work and i’m not wearing my sweats. But…I am going to Punta Cana in January where I also will not be wearing my sweats. 🙂

  • Today I appreciate this challenge (again). Not only did it change my outlook on life but I’m thrilled to know that I came out of it with a trip to Punta Cana. So grateful. Can’t wait. Party plane…here I come. 🙂

  • I appreciate the luxury of having a washer/dryer at home. I remember the days of shlepping my laundry to a laundry mat in -15 degree weather with a foot of snow on the ground. Though I did like when a friend would come with me and we would play cards while we waited for our clothes to be dry.

  • I appreciate sleep. Being well rested is so important to so many different aspects of ones day. A good nights sleep can be better then sex. (ok, not really, but you know what I mean, sleep is good.)

  • I am appreciating three INTENSE days of reviewing 2014 and planning 2015 with my team. What clarity! I think I already appreciated this this week, but that’s how much I appreciate what we’ve accomplished! Also, in just a couple of hours, this boy be DONE for the year. Bring. On. The. Holidays.

  • Today it’s a big one. I APPRECIATE the person who over the last 3 years has caused , and continues to cause me so much grief ,stress and has led to the complete destruction of what I used to call “me” . This deconstruction has led to much soul searching, working with a therapist to understand my thoughts, personal growth and understanding of myself and the whys of how I would ever let myself be involved in any way with someone who would do such harm. I continue to learn and grow and become my authentic self , and learn to surround myself with kind and inspired people and to avoid toxic relationships of any kind.

    • I haven’t stopped thinking about this post since you wrote it. If you get what you appear to have got, you’ve GOT it. This morning in my journaling I appreciated someone who has caused so much #*$&*#( in my experience for so long – appreciating the expansion within me they have caused. Congrats!

      • It is a daily struggle to move past the victim thinking , and I do wallow in my sorrows at times …however I think the universe needed my full attention this time .. I probably had 30 0r 40 years of subtle hints I never paid much attention to…

  • appreciating old friends tonight ..having dinner with 2 pals who I have known pretty well for all of our ups and downs, comedies, tragedies , and everything in between for at least 20 plus years.

  • I appreciate the meal I had with friends last night. It was great to catch up and to celebrate that after a long struggle one of them will finally be a mom in the new year. Good things happen to good people.

      • We saw family already, we skipped throwing our annual Christmas tree decorating party, skipped the tree (although we have a little one up), and have kept decorating to just flowers. We have said no to a lot of parties and offers, just spending time with people we don’t get to enough instead of everyone who asked. Patrick and I also only get each other one gift, and we are taking time to go out together for the specific purpose of re-hashing 2014 over cocktails and all there is to appreciate. What gifts I have purchased were paid for in cash and we took a pass on paper cards except to overseas friends and relatives in favour of electronic. So schtuff like that. End result is a feeling of relaxedness, time to spare, and a focus on the real reason for the season.

        • SOUNDS LIKE PERFECTION!!!!! You really have this life thing figured out amigo. You seem to do it all right. Love learning your strategies. Inspired. 🙂

  • I appreciate the time someone takes at the grocery store to make the delicious food that I buy when i’m too lazy to cook something up at home.

  • Today I appreciate my husband, and the vets who take care of my beloved Ella at grooming time. She’s such a soldier girl she has to be put under heavily just to get groomed, otherwise she freaks and struggles and won’t even succumb to light drugs. Patrick takes her to the vet and stays with her during the whole grooming process to relax her more (and save on giving her extra drugs!) – and I wait at home anxious like a freak because I can’t handle it. As I write this Ella and Patrick are on their way home in a cab – and that’s that for another few months!

  • I appreciate how Madonna fought back against the act of terrorism and artistic rape by giving us some songs early and the ability to pre-order her new album. So far what i’m hearing is pretty damn good. (I don’t love Bitch, I’m Madonna but i’m sure it will eventually grow on me). What are your thoughts? 🙂

  • I’m continually inspired and grateful for the abundance of nature around us in Canada. This afternoon, travelling aboard a train heading to Ottawa, I looked up from a magazine to gaze out the window, where the sun had started shining from behind the clouds upon acre after acre of shimmering frost covered trees. Absolutely stunning.

    • I appreciate your appreciation of nature and beauty which I notice is something you often share. I am usually in a state of gob-smackedness over nature too. Happy 2015!

      • So true. I so easily see and appreciate the beauty of nature. Not sure why it stands out so much to me, but I am definitely grateful for it – even in the winter!

  • I appreciate that my fiancés family takes my dietary choices (gluten free and mostly very healthy) into consideration when planning xmas dinner. Sometimes it is challenging for me to go to people’s homes for dinner because I don’t want to be a pain in their butt.

  • I appreciate realizing that maybe when I am tired and cant do too much maybe …my body is making me slow down because it needs me to be still. It might be very very busy deep inside that lump on the couch watching NETFLIX ..regenerating cells ! fighting viruses! regathering energy:-) Thank you for keeping me healthy and alive, body !

  • I appreciate good movies. They sure don’t make ’em the way they used to so when I see a good one, I mean a really good one, I feel extremely satisfied.

  • I appreciate that in 14 sleeps I won’t even think twice about leaving behind -21 degree weather. 🙂

  • I appreciate that Chum FM played Ghost Town this morning for the first time and that I was in the car to hear it. It has been a VERY long time since i’ve heard a new Madonna song on the radio. And that is a great song.

  • Happy 2015 everyone! Love reading your appreciations 🙂 I appreciate that I had the self-discipline to completely stay away from anything work related the entire time I was off. I even had my phone turned off and in another room 99% of the time! Yay to being off the grid and taking me time.

    • That is exactly what I will do in Punta Cana in 11 sleeps. 🙂
I’ll just tell you everyday what I appreciate. 😉

  • I appreciate all the time management skills that I have learned over the years. They help me day to day…especially to get me ready to go to Punta Cana in 3 sleeps.

  • I appreciate those silly, random things that family members bring up about your childhood, when you least expect it. Last night, in a conversation about vacations, a family member mentioned something so completely sideways (and rather embarrassing) about me as a kid that we all had to laugh.

  • Today as I sit alone in my office I appreciate all the time I spent with wonderful people this past week in Punta Cana. This truly was an adventure of a lifetime. My life has been changed for the better!

  • I appreciate how hard the staff worked at the resort we stayed at to ensure we had an incredible time while visiting.

  • Last night I went to see a high school production of the musical Urinetown because a close friend of mine who teaches there was the director and choreographer. I appreciate all the work she puts into these productions which allows these youngsters to have a platform to showcase their passions. I believe the children are our future…teach them well and…

  • I appreciate that I have the opportunity to work from home when the weather is horrible out and my commute time could have potentially quadrupled. Working in my pyjamas is way more fun!!! 🙂

  • I appreciate how many ways there are to keep in touch with people near and far. Technology has really helped friendships.

  • I appreciate I m kindof freaking out about things today and I came over here to see if anyone was still here 🙂 the visit made me feel a little better ….. thanks.
